Regroup Mass Notification Partners with USGS to Bring Earthquake Early Warnings to the West Coast

Regroup was the first partner to be approved for the US Geological Survey’s ShakeAlert™ pilot program.

Regroup Mass Notification, industry leading provider of emergency and day-to-day mass communication solutions, today announced a finalized partnership with the United States Geological Survey (USGS), to bring Earthquake Early Warnings (EEW) to a selected group of users of Regroup’s advanced notifications platform.

The project — now in a pilot phase — would trigger notifications to various channels; including cell phones, landlines, email, websites, and more to provide organizations and citizens with the rapid early earthquake warnings (EEW) they need in order to take protective measures.

“Our partnership with USGS and the ShakeAlert™ pilot program is one that reflects our company’s passion for saving lives through emergency mass notifications,” said Chris Utah, COO of Regroup. “San Francisco is our company’s headquarters, so we’re proud to be leading the efforts that will provide early earthquake warnings to our neighbors and the city and state we call home.”

Jennifer Strauss, Vice-Chair of the ShakeAlert Joint Committee Berkeley Seismology Lab added, “The USGS and UC Berkeley are happy to be partnering with Regroup for the ShakeAlert earthquake early warning system. Regroup is an early adopter for the system and will be able to deliver alert messaging capabilities to grow the adoption of ShakeAlert.”

ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning would be the first-ever automated, multilingual earthquake warning notification system in the United States. Regroup’s pilot projects will be conducted with a few select clients located in areas where there’s sufficient sensor coverage.
