2010 NMHU Phonathon

The annual NMHU Phonathon is going on right now. We’re asking alumni and friends to donate to the unrestricted accounts at NMHU which go to scholarships, programs and special events of the university. A special project this year is funding for the School of Education Center for Professional Development with its first project aimed at workshops for middle school teachers who teach math. Alumni and Friends should be expecting a letter soon as part of this fundraising drive telling them all about these projects with another opportunity to give a gift to Highlands.

Crowd Turns Out For Highlands University Raton Center Open House

“We’re glad to have Highlands in our community to add educational opportunity for our students,” said David Willden, superintendent for Raton Public Schools. “The center is not just for our young students. It’s also for people who are non-traditional students. You provide hope for the community that there’s a better life out there.”

Willden said that he was a non-traditional student himself, working after high school and starting college at the age of 27.

The Raton Center offers university courses in traditional classroom settings, as well as interactive television (ITV) classes, and online classes.

#11 Cowboys Make Short Work of CSU-Pueblo 18-1

The #11 NMHU Cowboys made short work of the Thunderwolves of CSU-Pueblo by a final score of 18-1 on 3/19. The NMHU vs. CSU-P series was cut short and will be ruled a one game series thanks to some inclement weather that swept across northeastern New Mexico over the weekend. The Cowboys are now 17-5 overall and 8-2 in RMAC play as they sit atop the RMAC as well as the NCAA Central Region in first place.

The Cowboys rode two huge innings in the five inning game (the game was cut short due to a winter storm that ended the entire series). The Cowboys would start out with a huge six run first inning and then back it up with another great inning in the fourth as they scored 11 runs. The Cowboys would finish the day with three doubles and two home runs en route to a .483 team batting average for the game.
