Las Vegas Chapter Business After Hours Event
Come join us on St. Patrick’s Day, Wednesday, March 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the NMHU Gene Torres golf course. Free admission and hors d'oeuvres will be provided. Raffle prizes and a cash bar will add to the fun. See you there!
Las Vegas Alumni Chapter Seeking New Board Members
We’re looking for volunteers for the Las Vegas Chapter to serve on its board. If interested, please contact Jim Mandarino at alumni@nmhu.edu.
Mortimer Hall Comes Down to Make Room for New Student Center
Mortimer Hall on the New Mexico Highlands University campus is being demolished to make way for the university’s new student center that will be built at the northwest corner of National Avenue and 8th Street.
“This student center will offer new amenities that enhance the quality of campus life for our growing student body and help with both recruitment and retention,” said Highlands University President Jim Fries. “It will also make a striking gateway to the main campus and offers various services for the community.”

Donnelly Library Receives Donation from Family of Former Biology Professor Robert Lindeborg
The New Mexico Highlands University Thomas C. Donnelly Library received a donation of scientific publications from the estate of long-time biology professor Dr. Robert G. Lindeborg, who died in 2001.
Dr. Lindeborg taught biology at the university from 1949 until his retirement in 1976. He continued teaching as a professor emeritus until his death. In November, Dr. Lindeborg’s family donated 70 books, and numerous scientific journal titles and research reports, to the university’s library.

Blue Oyster Cult
Winterfest 2010 at New Mexico Highlands University brings Blue Oyster Cult center stage Sat., Feb. 13, 8 p.m., at Ilfeld Auditorium, 900 University Ave.
Valentine’s Day sweetheart packages are available for dinner, premier concert tickets, and lodging in historic Las Vegas. For the concert alone, ticket prices for reserved seating is $30/35, and general seating is $25.

Matthew Shepard Foundation Presents “Erasing Hate: a Community Discussion”
New Mexico Highlands University’s Office of Campus Life will sponsor “Erasing Hate: A Community Discussion” presented by the Matthew Shepard Foundation Jan. 13 at 6 p.m.
The free public event will be in the Leveo Sanchez lecture hall on the ground floor of the university’s Donnelly Library, 802 National Ave.

Aggies Roll Over Cowgirls
The Cowgirls Basketball team travelled to southern New Mexico to take on the Aggies of New Mexico State University on 12/30. The Cowgirls were unable to come back with a victory but played well against the NCAA DI Aggies in Las Cruces. The final score was 80-39, with the Aggies coming out on top.

Buffs Trample Cowboys 92-65
The West Texas A&M Buffalos played poor host to the NMHU Cowboys as they drubbed the Cowboys 92-65 on 12/29 in Canyon, Texas. The 27 point loss is the second worst loss the Cowboys have had during the Joe Harge era; the Cowboys worst loss under Harge was an 87-57 loss in the 2008 season against Metro State College. The Cowboys are now 7-4 on the season and will return to RMAC play on 1/8 when they take on Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colo.

Notes and News
Homecoming 2010 will be Sept. 23, 24, and 25th , 2010. Start planning now. Game will be Saturday, Sept. 25. We will be honoring the class of 1960 with an induction of alumni into the Golden Society.
We are looking for volunteers to be Class Agents for Homecoming events for Sept. 23-25, 2010. Class agents will work with the Alumni office to provide activities for their class for Homecoming 2010 including making contacts with their peers to provide information and encourage participation. If you are willing to be a class agent contact Jim Mandarino at alumni@nmhu.edu.
Wishing you could start an NMHU Alumni Chapter in your home town? If you have ten or more NMHU alumni in your community and would like someone from the NMHU Alumni Association to visit with you to start a chapter or have a representative speak about the exciting activities happening at NMHU, please contact contact Jim Mandarino at alumni@nmhu.edu.
