#12 Cowboys Top Kearney in RMAC Series 3-1

The #12 NMHU Cowboys kept their RMAC series win streak alive as they took three out of four games from the Lopers of the University of Nebraska-Kearney. The Cowboys and the Lopers played the first double header of the series on 3/26 and split as the Cowboys took game one 9-6 and dropped game two of the day 6-5. The two teams would take the field again on 3/28 and the Cowboys would sweep on the day by scores of 11-5 and 7-5. Over the weekends wins, Cowboy Head Coach Steve Jones notched his 400th win at NMHU in the first game of the double header on 3/28 and enjoyed an ice cold drenching provided by the Cowboys in celebration of their coaches milestone win. With the second win of the double header, Coach Jones is now at 401 wins in his career at NMHU. The Cowboys are now 21-6 on the season and 11-3 in RMAC play. The Cowboys still sit atop the RMAC in first place after their series win over UNK.

Cowgirls Drop RMAC Series to Eagles 3-1

The Cowgirl Softball team took to the road to take on the Chadron State Eagles on 3/27 & 3/28. The Eagles proved to be too much for the Cowgirls as they could return with only one victory on the weekend. The Cowgirls are now 10-15 overall and 6-10 in RMAC play.

In game one, the Eagles took the early lead but the Cowgirls didn’t allow them to hold it for too long. The Cowgirls scored three runs in the second inning to put them in the lead. The big inning for the Cowgirls was the fourth, when they hit five runs to seal their victory. Ashley Paiz took to the mound for the Cowgirls. In seven innings pitched, she had 10 hits, four strikeouts and four runs, two of which were earned. Four Cowgirls scored two runs each during the game. Samantha Butler earned 3 RBIs while Chanel Ewing had two RBIs. Paiz is now 2-1 on the mound for the Cowgirls. The Cowgirls won in a convincing fashion 11-4.
